Stephanie moved to San Antonio in 2010 to pursue a science degree in Biological Sciences. She continued her education, furthermore, earning a Masters of Science degree in Molecular Biology and is currently pursuing a Doctoral Degree in Developmental and Regenerative Sciences from the University of Texas at San Antonio. Throughout her studies she worked as a professor's assistant where she lectured and mentored students in the Genetics and Cellular Biology laboratories. After shifting her focus into STEM education research, the need for support in underrepresented communities stood out and STEMSTART Enrichment Inc., was born.
Vice-President Laura is a first-generation college graduate. She received a Bachelor of Science degree from Southeast Missouri State University in 2016 and then went on to pursue her Master of Science degree in Biology at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. Vice-President Laura is a first-generation college graduate. She received a Bachelor of Science degree from Southeast Missouri State University in 2016 and then went on to pursue her Master of Science degree in Biology at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. Laura began teaching at UTRGV as a teaching assistant, then subsequently as an instructional facilitator for both the Department of Biology and the Department of Biomedical Sciences where she mentored tutors, facilitated supplementary instructional sessions, conducted small scale education research, and taught a number of classes in different biological disciplines. Currently, Laura is pursuing a doctoral degree at the University of Texas at San Antonio, specializing in epigenomics and obesity.
Joshua's family moved from El Paso, TX in 2005 to pursue careers in research and academia. Joshua attended the University of Texas at San Antonio where he studied Real Estate Finance and Development. Joshua joined our organization as our Treasurer with a passion for helping Hispanic first-generation students, like his parents, who are looking for support and mentoring in STEM fields.

Our Secretary Kaitlyn has been a lifelong lover of science. Her curiosity about how the world works led her to earn a Bachelor's degree in Genetics and Biotechnology and a Master's degree in Molecular Biology from New Mexico State University. She has worked in laboratories studying genetic mechanisms in organisms ranging from pecans to people, using model organisms like mice and sheep to explore scientific questions. Kaitlyn is passionate about making complex scientific concepts accessible, and she loves sharing her enthusiasm for science, research, and its potential. She is thrilled to join the Stemstart team and inspire others to pursue their interests in STEM fields!
Addison leads our Social Media team which plays a vital role in sharing our mission, engaging our community, and amplifying the impact of our programs. She earned her Bachelors of Science in Psychology from Sam Houston State University and began a Doctoral Degree in Neuroscience at the University of Texas at San Antonio in 2024. Addison has envisioned a future in education after tutoring and mentoring Psychopharmacology students and Neuroscience research assistants as an undergraduate. Her goal is to provide guidance and mentorship for students wanting to pursue a STEM education while helping to bridge the gap between Psychology and Neuroscience research. Through her creativity and dedication to our social media team, she connects, inspires, and informs, making STEM education more accessible to all.
Our Program Coordinators are the driving force behind the NPRE program, ensuring seamless organization and impactful experiences for our students and mentors. Their dedication, expertise, and passion for STEM education create opportunities that inspire and empower the next generation. Through their hard work and commitment, they make a lasting difference in the lives of students and community. We are grateful for their invaluable contributions!
